A complete mobile e-commerce application, shipped to the App Store

The challenge

A mobile commerce app is only finished when it is live and approved. Everything before that, catalogue, cart, checkout and account flows, has to work together, and then the whole thing has to clear app store review.

What we built

• A complete mobile e-commerce application covering browsing, cart and purchase flows
• Backend and API connections powering catalogue and orders
• Store submission and release, with the app publicly available on the App Store

How we built it

The app was scoped as a full product rather than a prototype, so account, catalogue, cart and checkout were designed as one coherent journey.

Release was part of the engagement. Getting through review and out the door is where a lot of app projects stall.

Challenges we solved

• Shipping, not just building. App store review is its own workstream with its own requirements. Treating release as part of the project rather than an afterthought is what got it live.
• Commerce flows on a small screen. Checkout is where mobile commerce loses people, which makes it the part that deserves the most design attention.
